Announcement by endowments minister Gade Venkat Reddy regarding TTD
TIRUPATI: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is on the horns of a dilemma with the announcement by endowments minister Gade Venkat Reddy on
Wednesday that the entire jewellery and property details of Lord Venkateswara would be posted on a website by October 2.
The announcement of the minister in Hyderabad assumed importance in the context of the recent high court order to TTD to furnish property details of the Lord to the court. A former executive officer of TTD said: “The country is facing a major terror threat and Tirumala is a prime target. At this juncture how can you justify furnishing the details of jewels of the Lord on the net. The government should think twice before taking such a hasty decision.”
According to sources, the temple owns over 11 tonnes of jewels and precious vessels. On an average, the temple receives over 400 kgs of gold and 4,000 kgs of silver in the form of donations every year.
